We’ve just delivered a series of Mission Navigation Belt (MNB) demo kits to our MNB commercialisation partner Teijin Smart Safety. The MNB is a lightweight belt that allows soldiers to feel waypoint navigation cues through haptic feedback.
Elitac Wearables developed it in collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Army, who took possession of the first order of 20 belts for testing purposes in July 2020.
The 9 demo kits come in robust cases containing the haptic navigation belt and accompanying phone, ready for use.
Parties in various countries have already expressed an interest in trialling the MNB. The demo kits will enable them to test and experience the benefits of haptic feedback navigation for themselves.
These benefits include:
- Enhanced situational awareness
By using the underutilised sense of touch instead of the eyes and ears, soldiers can better concentrate on their surroundings and mission. - Improved safety
The MNB emits no light and minimal sound. Moreover, the haptic navigation cues can always be felt, even when running or navigating difficult terrain. - Intuitive navigation
Directional vibrations felt around the waist are instinctive and easy to follow. Minimal training is required.
